I will hold this post to be "Self-Evident" and appropriate for the date.
I know it's not quite in the standard song format, and well, Ani Difranco is getting much attention this week...however, there couldn't be a more necessary reflection for today.
I'm sending out all my love and hope into cyberspace today. xoxoxoxo
Ani Difranco - Self-Evident
Whoa, did you hear those people scream at the end of certain lines?
ReplyDeletedude - there are so many impactfull lines in this piece, I don't even know what to quote...but I'd be interested in knowing where you were and what you were thinking on 9/11.
ReplyDeleteperhaps it's cliche to ask, but I'm still curious.
I was on my way to a jazz guitar lesson I was super insecure about - I was on the shuttle bus to Loyola Campus. I had woken up to the clock radio of my roommate who had come from Ithaca, New York, and I had disregarded the whole wake up experience to a nightmare, so on the bus, I heard this eye-witness account of the entire event and started instantly crying - my lesson was a blur - but I think the teacher said that he couldn't believe what happened and he was out of it. That night I played an open mic at the Cock and Bull and no one seemed to care that this was something that happened so close to us, and something that meant a huge shift in life, and awareness...
crazy day - anyway...I had no idea at the time how big it was. Even at almost 21 years old.
